Greek citizens will this Sunday "put an end to SYRIZA's disastrous policies in local government, in the municipalities and regions of the country," Movement for Change (Kinima Allagis - KINAL) party leader Fofi Gennimata said on Sunday, after casting her vote in the second round of local government elections.
She added that SYRIZA's policy and leadership must be "defeatedly permanently in the general elections."
"This is our goals and this is the goal that I serve through the choice of George Kaminis. We are signalling an enlargement and opening a huge door for progressive citizens that are abandoning SYRIZA in order to stand with KINAL. It is time to be done with the imitations, with the political mess that is SYRIZA. [It is time] for KINAL, the true progressive party, which has roots and history, a present and future, to act as a defence against the threat of a domination of the right that SYRIZA's policies have fed," she said. Commenting on the departure of former PASOK president Evangelos Venizelos, who quit KINAL over her decision to place Kaminis in first place on the party's state deputy ticket, Gennimata said she was "saddened" by Venizelos' decision "to abandon our common effort."
"In this so crucial election for the Movement and for the country there are many and important things that he might contribute from any position. Those absent from this fight simply make things easier for SYRIZA," she said, while clarifying that Venizelos could have campaigned to be elected in any electoral constituency he chose.
