PM Tsipras at city of Patras: 'New Democracy seeks the credit line we averted'

The main opposition party New Democracy "is praparing to take this money, put together by the people's sweat and labor, and give it to banks and bankers," Tsipras said.

Prime Minister and SYRIZA party leader Alexis Tsipras began a campaign speech at the city of Patras on Wednesday evening by saying that Greeks "have not yet uttered their final word," telling his supporters that there is still a chance the party can fare better than at the recent Euro-ballot or even win the upcoming July 7 national vote.

"The potential great turnaround on Sunday is first and foremost a matter of conscience," noted the Greek premier and added that voters should "consider exactly what they have lived through since 2014 and where the country stands today, free from the chains of the International Monetary Fund and of the creditors."

His government took over on empty state coffers when it came to power in 2015, said Tsipras, but noted there is, now, 35 billion euros available in the state budget, which he called "the people's sacrifices."

The main opposition party New Democracy "is praparing to take this money, put together by the people's sweat and labor, and give it to banks and bankers," Tsipras said.

He stressed that this money was secured so that "no one can blackmail Greece," and called the sum "a reservoir of national sovereignty, of democracy," and underlined that "we will not let (ND) lay hands on this sum of money." He said that Greeks cannot keep working to repay banks' mistakes.

"New Democracy's aim is to seek a credit line with lenders, what (Bank of Greece governor) Yiannis Stournaras wanted, and which we managed to fight to avert," highlighted Tsipras, leading to a credit memorandum.

"On Sunday we get to decide to keep the country's sovereignty intact," Tsipras noted.
