Greek citizens began voting in Sunday's general elections for their next government, in the first general elections to be held following the completion of the fiscal adjustment programmes and loan memoranda.
A total of 21,478 polling stations opened at 7:00 am and will officially close at 7:00 pm on Sunday evening.
Registered voters total 9,903,864, of whom 519,227 are aged 17-21. It will be the first time 17-year-olds have the right to vote in general elections.
Voter lists incorporate changes made up to April 30, 2019, unlike May's European and local government elections that were based on changes made up to February 28. This results in 18,430 fewer voters, the number of people who have died since May.
Voters may learn where their polling stations are by accessing the Interior Ministry's site www.ypes.gr. For additional information, they may call 213-1361500 (9:00 am- 5 pm) or ask their municipalities which will have staff on standby for related issues.
Voting is obligatory, except for voters who are abroad or are over 70 years old, and voters must bring official identification with them.
There are over 20 parties or groups to choose from, and voters may also add a cross to the left or right of a listed candidate's name. The number of candidates they may choose per ballot depends on the region, and polling stations will have clearly marked directions posted.
The counting of votes begins after all polling stations are shut, and the results are forwarded to the Ministry of the Interior from every region. The Ministry posts them officially on it site, https://ekloges.ypes.gr/, and distributes them to the media.
