Tsipras: We have an obligation to defend democracy and social justice

The July 24 anniversary of the restoration of democracy after the dictatorship "is a day of commemoration and honor for those who were sacrificed, jailed, exiled and pursued over freedom, social justice and democracy in Greece," SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said on Wednesday.

Tsipras said the 45th anniversary dawned on a Greece "of a new era, freed of (fiscal) supervision," and he urged "not to allow the sacrifices of the Greek people be wasted."

"We have a perennial obligation to defend democracy, independence and social justice, which we claimed through struggles and sacrifices," he said.
