Environment and Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis in an interview with 104.6 radio station on Tuesday accused SYRIZA of "primary audacity surplus" on the PPC issue.
Hatzidakis said that negotiations with the European Commission on energy market liberalisation measures, including PPC policy, will be held in mid-November instead of October 31, that was initially planned.
"We have already presented our agenda. We have said that we will abolish these NOME (Nouvelle Organisation du Marché de l’Electricité) auctions adopted by SYRIZA and by which PPC's competitors won 600 million euros at the company's expense. As part of the so-called structural measures, we will move to the target model, namely a deregulation of the energy market, in order to become a regular European country. We are going to abolish PPC lignite units because the older ones are not only costly, but there is a study that shows that the cost for PPC came to 683 million euros. If we closed them and continued to pay the workers of these units, it would cost less", the minister noted.
