We have proved we can defeat populism, Kyriakos MItsotakis says

"This is the first time that I come here as a prime minister," stated Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday, upon his arrival at the European Peoples' Party (EPP) Summit in Brussels.

"We have proved that we can defeat populism and this victory is also a victory for democracy in Europe, as we have succeeded in eliminating the extreme right and the Golden Dawn party from the Greek parliament," he said.

"We have an ambitious reform agenda and we face major challenges at home and abroad. Our first prioriity is to restore growth, attract investmetns and be certain that we have escaped from the vicious cycle that held our country back for over a decade," said Mitsotakis.

"At the same time," he added, "we are facing challenges from without. Greece remains a pillar of stability within an incredibly destabilised region but we are here to reaffirm our commitment to the region's stability and this is the direction we will move in."
