Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday said the government is "immediately launching a program of preventative check-ups for breast cancer, including patient referral to specialists at either public or private hospitals and clinics, free of charge," in a message marking October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month across the globe.
In a YouTube video, the premier said, "Our thoughts go to the women and their families who have braved this particular struggle," and citing his mother's case he said "believe me when I say that I know how tough this battle is, but it can be won."
Mitsotakis then said that "the best weapon in this battle is a correct-information campaign, and it is unfortunate that Greece is lacking in that regard," and pointed out that "breast cancer can be cured if diagnosed early.".
