In an interview with the Canadian newspaper "The Globe and Mail", Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has outlined his government's plan to usher in a new era of growth for the Greek economy. The interview was published on Thursday under the headline: "An impatient new prime minister takes on the Herculean task of overhauling austerity-battered Greece".
According to the Maximos Mansion, the prime minister spoke about achieving sustainable growth "for all" that does not increase the income inequality that has been evident in western liberal democracies. The Canadian paper described his vision for Greece as "nothing less than revolutionary," and noted his ambition to create a competitive economy that acts as a magnet for foreign investment, based on more than just "sea and sun".
Government sources said the journalist taking the interview, Eric Reguly, met the prime minister at the Maximos Mansion and referred at length to his plans for overhauling the economy with the introduction of green technology, digitisation, tax cuts, privatisations and reduction of non-performing loans. The prime minister also commented on Turkey and the issue with Libya, stressing that Turkish activity will not be permitted to infringe on Greece's sovereign rights and that its "red lines" will be defended.
Mitsotakis, according to the sources, referred to his meeting with Justin Trudeau in London and his plans to visit Canada in 2021, the action taken by his government to facilitate the mining investment in Halkidiki by Canada's Eldorado Gold, while he concluded by stressing that he had been "elected with a mandate to make changes and that is what I intend to do."
