ELSTAT: Greek public debt at 334.261 billion euros in Q3 2019

Greek public debt totaled 334.261 billion euros at the end of the third quarter of 2019, slightly lower compared with 335.033 billion a year earlier, Hellenic Statistical Authority said in a report on Tuesday. The statistics service said that general government revenue was 23.986 billion euros in the third quarter of 2019 from 23.258 billion in the same period in 2018. Income and property taxes amounted to 5.453 billion euros (22.7 pct of total revenue), from 5.405 bllion (23.2 pct of total revenue) in the third quarter of 2018. Social contributions totaled 6.837 billion euros (28.5 pct of total revenue) from 6.533 billion (28.1 pct), respectively.

General government spending totaled 20.860 billion euros in the third quarter of 2019, up from 20.763 billion in 2018 (primary spending rose to 19.566 billion from 19.332 billion euros). Payroll spending was 5.475 billion euros (26.2 pct of total spending) down from 5.449 billion (26.2 pct) of total spending in the third quarter of 2018. Social benefits totaled 9.440 billion euros (45.3 pct of total spending, down from 9.508 billion (45.8 pct) in the third quarter of 2018.
