Wildfire on Elafonissos in progress

A wildfire that broke out on the island of Elafonissos on Saturday is in progress.

Fifteen fire engines with a 45-member crew, two groups of firemen on foot assisted by two firefighting aircraft and two helicopters are currently battling the blaze.

A super puma helicopter with a group of seven firemen has left from Athens Airport to join the firefighting forces, the region of Peloponnese said.

A camping and a hotel in the area of Simos have been evacuated for precautionary reasons.
